The Resource Center is the clearinghouse for NJAC’s
Outclient Services in the Middlesex County area. Resource Center staff provide services for ex-offenders
returning to the Middlesex County area, inmates presently
incarcerated in the County Correctional facility or returning to
their community of origin, as well as clients from NJAC's
residential programs.
Offering
counseling and advocacy services, the Center also acts as a
statewide referral center. Counseling
services are offered in conjunction with general pre-release
planning for inmates currently in county and state correctional
institutions. Resource
Center staff routinely visit the county correctional facility
where they conduct individual and group counseling and assist
inmates with problems they have around incarceration and
reentering the community.
Numerous referrals are
received from probation and parole authorities, welfare, and job
services and substance abuse programs, requesting a variety of
services. Resource
Center staff arrange for transportation, meals and shelter in
addition to assisting future needs of individual clients and
making appropriate referrals to other community agencies for
specialized services. Clients
are encouraged to follow through on the referrals, however, staff
is available to assist in brokering for services if a client is
experiencing difficulties in obtaining the required service.
