New Jersey Association on Correction (NJAC) is a citizen’s organization that
has been working for a more effective criminal justice system since 1961.
The work of the Association is focused on Public Education and Policy as
well as in providing direct services to offenders and victims of crime.
The Association is a private, not-for-profit 501c (3) corporation,
governed by a Board of
Trustees that is elected by its statewide membership that includes
business executives, professional men and women, ex-offenders and a
cross-section of New Jersey citizens.
The
NJAC’s direct services include nine residential programs.
The Trenton-based Clinton
House has been in operation since 1966, and the New Brunswick-based
Sanford
Bates House, since 1972. The
Passaic
County Women’s Center’s domestic violence program as well as its
rape crisis center has been in operation since May of 1986.
Broughton
House, a boarding home for homeless HIV individuals in Newark, began
operation in February 1990 and
Winifred
Canright, a similar program in 1999.
PARTS a residential treatment program for mothers in recovery with their children
opened in Perth Amboy in 1995.
Project
FIRST, a residential program for addicted mothers and their children
living with HIV/AIDS opened its doors in June 1997.
Millicent
Fenwick House, our program for substance abusing pre-parolees
was implemented October 1997. Our newest
program,
the
Camden County Women’s Center’s domestic violence program, providing
services to battered women and their children in Blackwood, began operation in
July of 2002.
The
Association’s out-client services in Middlesex, Essex, Mercer, Hudson and
Passaic Counties include a Resource Center, parenting skills program,
transitional housing for people living with HIV/AIDS (Scattered Site Housing
Project), AIDS prevention projects (CAP/Corrections AIDS Project and
POW!/Prevention Outreach Works!), counseling, advocacy and case management
services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault (PCWC &
CCWC’s Outclient Programs), linkages for children with incarcerated parents
(Future
Links), and a program that assists adolescent juvenile offenders in
Middlesex County that have violated probation (PAY).
The NJAC is headquartered in
Trenton, New Jersey and houses all administrative staff, including the
Executive Director, Deputy Director, Director of Administrative Services, Fiscal
Director, Director of Public Education and Policy, Grants Manager, Accounting
Assistant, Payroll Clerk, Human Resource Generalist, Administrative Coordinator
and an Administrative Assistant.
