New Jersey Association on Correction (NJAC) is a citizen’s organization that has been working for a more effective criminal justice system since 1961.  The work of the Association is focused on Public Education and Policy as well as in providing direct services to offenders and victims of crime.  The Association is a private, not-for-profit 501c (3) corporation, governed by a Board of Trustees that is elected by its statewide membership that includes business executives, professional men and women, ex-offenders and a cross-section of New Jersey citizens.

The NJAC’s direct services include nine residential programs.  The Trenton-based Clinton House has been in operation since 1966, and the New Brunswick-based Sanford Bates House, since 1972.  The Passaic County Women’s Center’s domestic violence program as well as its rape crisis center has been in operation since May of 1986.  Broughton House, a boarding home for homeless HIV individuals in Newark, began operation in February 1990 and Winifred Canright, a similar program in 1999.  PARTS a residential treatment program for mothers in recovery with their children opened in Perth Amboy in 1995. Project FIRST, a residential program for addicted mothers and their children living with HIV/AIDS opened its doors in June 1997.  Millicent Fenwick House, our program for substance abusing pre-parolees was implemented October 1997.  Our newest program, the Camden County Women’s Center’s domestic violence program, providing services to battered women and their children in Blackwood, began operation in July of 2002.

The Association’s out-client services in Middlesex, Essex, Mercer, Hudson and Passaic Counties include a Resource Center, parenting skills program, transitional housing for people living with HIV/AIDS (Scattered Site Housing Project), AIDS prevention projects (CAP/Corrections AIDS Project and POW!/Prevention Outreach Works!), counseling, advocacy and case management services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault (PCWC & CCWC’s Outclient Programs), linkages for children with incarcerated parents (Future Links), and a program that assists adolescent juvenile offenders in Middlesex County that have violated probation (PAY).
